The Importance of Self-Healing Before a Reiki Session

The other day on my Instagram stories, I shared something simple—but very important:I always do a self-healing meditation before a Reiki session.
And honestly… it changes everything.
My Reiki Journey (And a Full Circle Moment)
I learned Reiki in Melbourne at the Ashati Institute of Energy, where I was also introduced to other energy modalities like Ashati and Alsemia. That’s where I first connected with the teachings of Mikao Usui and began to understand how deeply Reiki is connected to the heart.
At the time, it felt powerful—but I didn’t fully get it yet.
Fast forward two years later, when I created Corazon… and everything clicked. It was one of those moments where life just makes sense.
A full circle 💚
The Simple Practice That Changes Everything
One of the key things we were taught during training was how to prepare before a session.
Before working with a client, we would:
Visualize a white or golden light around ourselves
Extend that light to surround the client
Imagine a connection from heart to heart
It’s simple. It’s gentle. But it’s powerful.
This is something I still do to this day.
The Heart: More Than Just a Feeling
Later on, I started learning more about the heart—not just spiritually, but scientifically.
The heart actually has its own electromagnetic field, and it plays a huge role in our intuition. Research from the HeartMath Institute shows how powerful heart coherence can be in creating emotional balance, clarity, and connection.
And suddenly… everything made even more sense.
Because in Reiki, we say that the hands are extensions of the heart. We use them to scan, feel, and channel energy—but it all starts from within.
Why Self-Healing Before a Session Matters
This is where it all comes together.
Self-healing before a session is not just a “nice thing to do”—it’s essential.
When you take time to:
Ground yourself
Connect to your heart
Regulate your nervous system
You show up in a completely different way.
You’re calmer.More present.More intuitive.
And the session flows so much more naturally.
When I Didn’t Do It…
I’ll be honest—there has been one time when I skipped my self-healing practice.
And… I felt it 😅
The session felt a bit disconnected, not as smooth. And afterward, I felt more drained than usual.
That was my reminder:This step is not optional.
It’s part of the work.
Heart Coherence = Better Energy Flow
The more you are in a state of heart coherence, the more aligned your energy becomes.
And from that place:
Your channeling becomes clearer
Your intuition becomes stronger
The client receives more
It’s not about “doing more”—it’s about being in the right state.
So… What Is Channeling, Really?
For me, channeling is about connection.
It’s about tuning into your heart, your intuition, and also the energy field of another person.
Some people describe this as connecting to the quantum field, like Joe Dispenza, or the “Lattice” described by Jacobo Grinberg.
Different languages, different perspectives…But they all point to the same thing:
We are all connected.
A Little Reminder Before Your Next Session
Whether you’re offering Reiki or receiving it…
Take a moment first.
Breathe.Slow down.Drop into your heart.
That small pause can completely transform the experience.
What’s Coming Next
In my next blog, I’ll be sharing more about healing modalities in Mexico and the wisdom of shamans—something very close to my roots and my heart.
